Burnt Mill Academy Students create art for Princess Alexandra Hospitals Maternity Unit
Posted: 14th July 2016
Year 11 art students from Burnt Mill Academy were commissioned by the maternity staff at PAH to create a range of prints, drawings and paintings for our maternity unit.
Miss Humphreys, Art Teacher said: “These fantastic students have all been so busy concentrating on their GCSE’s and they have stayed late to produce the work based on ‘New life’. I’m so proud of what they have managed to achieve and I hope visitors of PAH really enjoy the art these students have put so much effort into creating.”
Slywia Kuczynska, Aleksandra Mlodnicka, Adrianna and Michalina Marciniec were the four students who painted the masterpieces and were excited to contribute their artwork to the local hospital. All four of them will be graduating and starting college in September, but have said they would be happy to come back to do more.
Helen O’Keefe, Change Project Manager for Family and Women’s Services at PAH said: “I contacted the Academy because I wanted to inject some colour into the unit and to reflect the what happens on the unit every day. I’m so happy with these paintings and drawings. They will make a real difference to the unit and the fact that we have local students helping us to brighten up our corridors maintains the hospital’s family feel. They have all done a great job.”
The bright and colourful paintings will be framed and put up in the maternity unit by the end of the month, brightening up the corridors of PAH.
This collaboration will continue with the next Art outreach project that will involve producing work for the hospitals children’s wards. This is starting in the Autumn term.
