Local Governing Board

The Local Governing Board (LGB) has a broad spectrum of Governors who are well trained and bring with them knowledge of local business, education and the local community. They have an important role in ensuring that the school provides the best possible educational environment for the young people in our community.

The purpose of the LGB is to provide support and challenge to the school on behalf of the Trust Board. It does this through providing strategic direction at a local level, promoting high standards and educational achievement. The Local Governing Board's key focus is on:

Andrew Overton - Trust Governor (Chair 2024/26)

Andrew comes from a business background. He is also a Past Master of a City of London Livery Company, that in 2008 affiliated with Royal Docks Academy in Newham and organised a reverse takeover of this school by the Burnt Mill Academy Trust in 2017. He remains Chair of Governors at Royal Docks.

 

He became Chair of Governors at Burnt Mill Academy in 2018 and continues to support the school in every way possible. He is also Vice Chair of the Burnt Mill Academy Trust.

Cherina Redman - Community Governor

Cherina Redman has an academic and teaching background having graduated with a first-class BA in Abrahamic Religions and a Master's in Biblical Studies before going on to do her teacher training in Literacy and ESOL at the Institute of Education.

During her time teaching English at an SEN secondary school in North London Cherina has completed her Level 7 SpLD Dyslexia qualification at the Institute of Education, UCL. She now has an AMBDA and APC and is therefore qualified to formally assess and diagnose learners with dyslexia.

Currently, Cherina Redman teaches Religious Studies and History in a secondary school in East London. Outside of work she enjoys doing various activities with her family.
