House System
At Burnt Mill Academy we are extremely proud of our House system that fosters a sense of community and pride within our school. It gives students the opportunities to work together, and collaborate with others, from different year groups and friendship groups in fun and engaging events throughout the year.
The House system promotes healthy competition, that drives students to improve and be the best they can be. But more importantly, can also teach lessons about resilience and not giving up if you don’t succeed first time.
When joining the school each of our students is placed into one of our six houses. Each house is headed by a House Leader, a member of staff responsible for the House and the House Representatives, student leaders who together with the house leaders work to ensure all students are given opportunity and support to represent their house in one of our many house competitions. The House Representative role allows for the promotion of responsibility amongst the older students and allows them to build leadership and motivation skills.
Each of the Houses compete for the annual House Cup. The winner is the House that collects the most house points. Students gain house points through attending school each day on time with the correct equipment and through academic rewards such as R2 and R3 issued by their teachers for classwork and homework as well as larger R4 and R5 awards.
Students also collect house points for participation and performance in house competitions. House competitions run throughout the year and are varied in their focus to allow all students to represent their house in an area they enjoy.
