Professional dancers inspire youngsters
Posted: 3rd April 2019Watching professional dancers perform has inspired youngsters to take centre stage in their school production.
A group of 40 Key Stage 3 students from Burnt Mill Academy went to Move It – billed as the “world’s biggest dance event” - at the Excel Centre, London.
Mingling with stars such as Louis Spence from Pineapple Dance Studios and Aston Merrygold from JLS further encouraged students to audition for High School Musical at school.
Georgina Woods, head of performing arts, said: “The trip to Move It was as opportunity to promote and celebrate performing arts. Students were able to watch professionals perform live and speak to colleges and universities about their post-16 options and find out about the available pathways to a career in dance and performing arts.
“The students were buzzing on the day. A lot had never seen live dance before. For the boys especially, it was inspiring for them to see male dancers perform. They were all really enthusiastic about the day.
“Off the back of the trip, they all wanted to audition to take part in our school production of High School Musical. It inspired them to take on the lead roles and have the confidence to get involved.”
