What a proud but sad moment to say goodbye to our yr 11s. I meant everyword I said. You are ALL INCREDIBLE young people who deserve the best. Couldn't hide the tears at the end! So proud that so many of you continued with a language at A-level.

Welcome From The Head Of School

Burnt Mill is an inclusive comprehensive school with excellent exam results. In 2017, 97% of all of our Year 11 students were awarded at least 5 A*-C grades in their GCSEs whilst 71% of students gained a combined result of 5 GCSE grades at national standard or above including English and Maths. As a Performing Arts College, we also have particular strengths in these curriculum areas so that students can excel in both academic and creative subjects.

Burnt Mill is a caring and friendly school and our students tell us that when they come to school, they feel happy, safe and they enjoy their learning. This positive environment, where our students are supported and inspired to be the best that they can possibly be, enables every child to thrive. Supporting students is our top priority at Burnt Mill whether this is monitoring and keeping them on track with their learning or whether they need help to deal with personal, social or other issues.

We believe in creating opportunities for every individual and pupils seize the chance to experience all that Burnt Mill has to offer. We organise many trips and have numerous after school clubs. We want our students to leave school with great GCSEs but also memorable experiences. Pupils are also encouraged to learn an instrument, compete in sports or become involved in one of our many school productions.

At Burnt Mill we expect every child to leave us at the end of each day, enthused, having learnt lots of new things, in lots of new ways. You can be assured that your child will be joining a school where learning is of paramount importance. Academic success and achieving qualifications is very important to us because we know that it will create opportunities for young people.

We have high aspirations for all our students and we expect every child to leave us having achieved excellent examination results and the skills to enable them to further their education through Apprenticeships or by attending University. As well as excellent results, we know that to be accepted to one of the Russell Group universities such as Cambridge, Oxford or Leeds that students will need to demonstrate determination, resilience and a strong work ethic; these are qualities that we develop in our students.

At Burnt Mill we pride ourselves in the way we treat each other. We expect all students to be respectful to the adults and to their fellow students. We expect our students to follow the instructions adults give first time and pride ourselves on the compliments we receive daily about how well behaved our students are in lessons and around school.

Burnt Mill students are happy, hard-working and have a strong desire to learn. They have exemplary behaviour, high aspirations and are respectful and kind to others. Our students strive to make their parents/carers, school and community proud.

Yours,

Ms L McGlashan
